Marwan Fawaz is the Chief Technical Officer and Executive Vice President for Charter Communications. He has over 22 years experience in the cable industry encompassing engineering, technical operations and business development. He started his career in the industry as a design engineer at Times Mirror Cable Television where he worked for ten years, later he joined Continental Cablevision as a Vice President of Engineering for the Western region. He also worked at MediaOne as a Vice President of Operations and Engineering, served as an Executive-In-Residence at Pilot House Ventures, managed the Northwest region for Charter Communications as the Regional Vice President, and worked for Vulcan Inc., a Paul Allen company as a Technology Investment Analyst. Prior to Charter Communications he was the CTO for Adelphia Communications.

Fawaz holds a BS degree in electrical engineering and MS degree in telecommunications specializing in satellite communications.

A 14-year veteran of the cable industry, Jeff Baumgartner most recently served as Editor in Chief of CED magazine, responsible for its day-to-day and long-term editorial direction, as well as its range of electronic and ancillary print products. Baumgartner launched his career in cable in 1993 as a PR coordinator/manager for Jones Education Networks. He has also served as marketing manager for Starz Encore Group. His career in trade journalism career began in 1998, when he became the Denver Bureau Chief of CableFAX Daily. Jeff has a B.A. in technical journalism/electronic reporting from Colorado State University.

Ralph Brown

Ralph Brown is CableLabs®' Chief Technology Officer. Previously, Brown served as Senior Vice President of the Broadband Access Department within CableLabs®, which is responsible for DOCSIS® and CableHome specification development and certification programs.

Prior to CableLabs®, Brown worked for Excite@Home and Time Warner Cable in the area of broadband interactive television.

Brown earned a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His Master's thesis was in the field of Speech Recognition. He received his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Summa Cum Laude, from North Carolina State University.

Terry Cordova

Terry Cordova began his career in cable as an installer/technician in 1980 with Communications Services Incorporated. After he graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Cordova spent several years at Galaxy Cablevision, serving in the positions of chief engineer and, ultimately, senior vice president of engineering. In 1999, he joined Charter Communications, where he served as the Eastern Division Vice President of Engineering, overseeing Technical Operations & Engineering for approximately three million basic customers.

Today, Cordova serves as the Chief Technology Officer for Suddenlink Communications, based in St Louis. Suddenlink is the eight largest MSO in the country, serving approximately 1.3 million basic customers. Cordova has been an active member of SCTE since 1987 and currently sits on the SCTE Board of Directors as a Director at Large.

Leslie Ellis

Leslie Ellis is an independent technology analyst, author, and owner of Ellis Edits, Inc., based in Denver, CO. Since September of 2000, she has written and continues to write a bi-weekly column for Multichannel News called "Translation Please," aimed at demystifying commonly-used cable and broadband technology terms. For Communications Engineering & Design magazine, Ellis serves as a contributing writer/editor.

Ellis wrote the A-to-Z dictionary "Definitive Broadband: Next Generation," in November, 2005, as a follow-on to "Definitive Broadband," published in May 2001. She co-authored "The Field Guide to Broadband," published in October 2002. Additionally, Ellis was a contributing author for the September, 2003 release of "Planet Broadband," which describes a vision of the future as foretold by cable modem inventor Rouzbeh Yassini. She is currently researching and writing a fourth book, related to the "digital transition."

Ellis is senior technology advisor to CTAM, and a contributing research analyst for Bear Stearns Inc. She received the NCTA's Vanguard Award for Associates & Affiliates in 2005.

Previously, Ellis was Paul Kagan Associates' senior technology analyst. Ellis was senior technology editor for Multichannel News/Broadband Week from 1994-1998, and managing editor of Communications Engineering & Design magazine from 1990-1994. She began in the cable industry in 1987 with Telecommunication Products Corp.

Tom Gorman

Tom Gorman has been in the Cable and Telecommunications industry since 1976, and was even installing rooftop TV antennas prior to that. He has worked for Comcast Cablevision, Jones Intercable, Jedai Broadband Networks and is now the Vice President of Field Operations for Charter Communications. He has been an SCTE member since 1982, and was the founder and first president of the Chesapeake Chapter in the Baltimore, Washington area.

Gorman co-authored the book, "Understanding RF Signal Leakage," which was published in 1984. He also designed a high security pedestal that is manufactured by Multilink for use in high theft areas. In 1987, he received an SCTE personal achievement award. He has authored numerous articles for Communications Technology magazine and serves on their board of advisors, as well as on the board of advisors for Broadband Gear Report. He has been on the Board of Directors of the Society of Cable Telecommunication Engineers (SCTE) since 2004, and in 2007 was elected Chairman.

Ron Hranac

Cisco Systems, Inc.

A 35-year cable veteran, Ron Hranac is a technical leader for Cisco Systems's Broadband Marketing Group in Englewood, Colo. Ron provides high-level engineering support and training to Cisco's customers; internal account team support and training; works with new business development and marketing teams; and is involved in outbound marketing, defining product requirements and high-level architectures for new cable-related technology.

Before joining Cisco, Ron was vice president, engineering, for High Speed Access International. He spent nine years as senior vice president, engineering, for Coaxial International, a cable television consulting firm. He began his cable career with TelePrompTer Cable TV in 1972 and moved to Jones Intercable in the late '70s. After nearly 11 years with Jones in various engineering capacities, Ron served as CT Publications's senior vice president of editorial. He remains senior technology editor and a columnist for Communications Technology.

Ron's industry activities include the publication of hundreds of articles and papers and numerous speaking engagements. In 1997, he was inducted into the Cable TV Pioneers.

Ron served as a Director-At-Large on the SCTE Board of Directors from 1996 to 2002. He was a Regional Director from 1987 to 1993. During that time, he served as SCTE's Secretary, President, and Chairman, and he has been a member of the SCTE Executive Committee. He is a member of the SCTE Planning Committee and Fellow Member Subcommittee.

In 1987, he became the first person in the cable industry to be certified in SCTE's Broadband Communications Technician/Engineer (BCT/E®) program. He also holds SCTE Broadband Distribution Specialist, Broadband Transport Specialist, and Broadband TelecomCenter Specialist (with Data Endorsement) certifications. Elevated to Senior Member in 1986, Ron became the first Fellow Member of the Society in 1991. He was SCTE Member of the Year in 2004.

Ron is a founder of the SCTE Rocky Mountain Chapter and a prominent contributor to the SCTE-List.

Barbara Jaffe

Barbara Jaffe is senior vice president, Advance Technology and Operations, for Home Box Office, responsible for assessing technologies and new business opportunities which have potential for distributing HBO's products; planning and acquiring HBO's satellite capacity for its domestic and international programming distribution; and overseeing the technical assessment and acquisition of encryption and digital compression systems. She also manages the technical and affiliate operational aspects of HBO On Demand; HBO's commercial decoder authorizations system; and West Coast Technology Operations. In addition, she works to establish and support HBO's position in relevant FCC initiatives. She was named to this position in January 2001.

Jaffe joined HBO in July l980 as a regional manager, Affiliate Operations responsible for the distribution of HBO, Cinemax and the USA Network in upstate New York and subsequently the New England area. She was promoted to director, Sales Planning and Development in February 1983, in charge of overseeing development of the distribution, positioning and packaging strategies for HBO and Cinemax. In September 1985, she was promoted to vice president, Sales Promotion and development responsible for sales strategy and planning, staff and affiliate training, trade advertising and communications, and meetings & conventions. She moved over to the technology side of the network in 1992 as vice president, Technology Operations.

Jaffe holds a BA degree from Emory University and an MBA degree from Stanford University.

Marv Nelson

A 28-year veteran of the cable telecommunications industry, Marv Nelson is vice president, professional development, of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE). He joined the SCTE staff in 1991. He has served in his current position since 1996, leading the formation and implementation of the Society's professional development opportunities.

Prior to SCTE, Nelson worked 12 years for Metrovision Inc., first as a bench technician and later as a chief technician.

Nelson holds a bachelor of arts in organizational management and MBA from Eastern University in St. Davids, Pa. He is an SCTE-certified Broadband Communications Technician (BCT®) and Broadband Communications Engineer (BCE®) and an ASAE Certified Association Executive (CAE).

Joe Selvage

As the VP of IP Networks for Mediacom Communications, Inc Joe Selvage and his team is responsible for all aspects of network and transport infrastructure within Mediacom. Selvage's team deploys and operates all internal, external and customer facing IP networks.

Previous to Mediacom, Selvage spent 16 years at Adelphia as Dir of Systems Engineering.
Joe has spent 30 years in cable primarily focused on evaluation, development and deployment of new technologies into cable operations.

Carolyn Terry

Carolyn Terry has over 20 years experience in cable television and broadband industries. During the past 11 years, she has been involved in all aspects of development, engineering, integration and deployment of advanced networks to support digital video, high-speed data, VOD, ITV, HDTV, DVR, and telephony in markets of up to 1.8 million homes passed.Her expertise covers the full range of broadband industry technical activities-advanced digital services integration, major project/budget responsibility, and leadership of field and professional engineering teams.

Terry has held positions with Comcast, KPMG, Digeo, Altrio Communications and most recently Adelphia Communications as Regional Director of Advanced Services.Her responsibilities included engineering and directing the implementation of advanced services, including digital video, VOD, HDTV, and DVR systems in the six-county Southern California region (Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego). Terry also led the engineering and deployment of the regional video transport system and the implementation of the digital simulcast network.

Terry is currently South Division Vice President Engineering in Time Warner Cable's Los Angeles Region, where she is responsible for leading the Video HFC Engineering Headend Operation teams supporting 30 facilities as well as integrating and deploying new services. Terry recently was elected to SCTE Southern California Chapter Board and is also a Board Member with the Los Angeles Chapter of Cable Positive.

Terry received her B.S. in Electronics Engineering from ITT Technical Institute with highest honors. She also has training and certification in 12 different engineering categories.

Jonathan Tombes

Jonathan Tombes is editor of Communications Technology. He also edits CT's Pipeline, CT Reports, and CT'ss Communications Executive and contributes to the Cable360.net website. Since joining the CT editorial team in 1999, he has covered video, voice, data, transmission, distribution line and wireless technologies, premises and test equipment, operations support systems, MSO and independent cable operator engineering and technical operations, SCTE committees, standards and competitive technologies. From his previous position as a researcher at a Washington, DC-based policy institute, he contributed to business and other publications.

Mark Tubinis

As a seasoned veteran of the networking and telecommunications industries, Mark Tubinis, brings over 26 years of experience in executive management, engineering, strategic planning and business development to his role as CTO.

Prior to joining Cedar Point, Tubinis was the Vice President responsible for the Packet Core and IMS Business Unit in the Mobile Solutions Division of Alcatel in Paris, France. Tubinis was responsible for divisional P&L and for the overall success of the organization that included several hundred employees spanning multiple countries. It was here that Tubinis successfully launched Alcatel's Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN) product and led the creation of the best of breed, IMS Application Server and IP border node products. These accomplishments played a major role in repositioning Alcatel as a leading vendor of IMS based products.

Before joining Alcatel, Tubinis was Vice President, CTO and Co-Founder of WaterCove Networks. WaterCove, a pioneer in the development of next generation, intelligent mobile data switching products, was acquired by Alcatel in 2004. In this role Tubinis and senior members of his team developed and evangelized the vision embodied in Watercove's Mobile Data Switching Solution (MDSS) product line. Tubinis has a patent pending relating to mobile data services that cover the areas of real time charging and the company, under his leadership, has submitted numerous patents related to service mobility, content based charging and deep packet inspection.  As Co-Founder and senior member of the management team, Tubinis helped raise over $60M in venture funding.

Throughout Tubinis' career he has held such executive positions as President, CEO & CTO of Innovative Telecom, Vice President of Engineering and CTO of Summa Four, and Entrepreneur in Residence with Charles River Ventures.

Mark holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Boston University and an M.S. in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Ken Wright

Ken Wright is the Chief Technology Officer of ARRIS. In this role, he is focused on industry technology initiatives and the integration of ARRIS’s legacy and acquired products. Prior to joining ARRIS, Wright was CTO of C-COR, where he participated in diversifying and reshaping C-COR into a leading global provider of HFC network equipment, OSS/BSS solutions, and On Demand platforms.

Wright has more than 25 years leadership experience in analyzing and implementing technology advances. Prior to joining C-COR, Wright was the Chief Technical Officer for InterMedia Partners, a cable MSO serving 1.2 million customers. Under his technology leadership, InterMedia rebuilt its cable systems with state of the art networks, and rolled out advanced services across its customer base. Other industry positions have included engineering management and operations positions with 21e.net (a broadband streaming media company) and cable operators such as Jones Intercable, United Artists Cable, and Centel.

Wright has been a frequent invited speaker and panelist at various industry conferences in the U.S. and Europe. He has served on committees for CableLabs®, NCTA, and SCTE, as well as a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Advisory Committee. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Michigan University and a Master of Telecommunications Degree from the University of Denver.
